Journal entry by Erica Cook —
Good evening everyone,
We come to you with heavy hearts as we share the news of our father's passing on Thursday afternoon, March 21st, 2024. Although we grieve the briefness of his time here on earth, we find comfort in the knowledge that our Dad is now at peace, free from suffering, and in the embrace of our savior Jesus Christ. Over the past few months, Dad's health had been declining steadily, leading to multiple admissions to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. While his lungs remained resilient, he battled heart and kidney failure among other things. Despite his brave efforts, Dad passed away at home in Delafield, just two days after his recent discharge from the hospital. Shortly after Dad entered eternal life, Father Tony of St. Anthony's on the Lake joined our family at home, offering words of comfort and leading us in prayer, providing us with the sacrament of holy communion to nourish our spirits with God's love during this difficult time.
During Dad's illness, we clung to the words of Isaiah 40:31, finding strength in the promise that those who trust in the Lord will be renewed. Now, as Dad soars on wings like eagles in his heavenly form, we can sense his presence and feel his eternal smile shining upon us. In times of sorrow, we seek comfort and hope in the scriptures. Last night, Angela stumbled upon a verse from Philippians 3:21- "He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control." The profound connection of this verse to the date of Dad's passing, 3/21/2024, holds deep significance for us; it assures us that Dad is telling us that his mortal body has been transformed into a glorious one, granting him newfound peace, which provides lasting comfort to our hearts.
