Good morning family and friends,
As you know dad had a second brain surgery back in April. Although pathology reports came back that it was yet again Glioblastoma, everything  seemed to be going good post-surgery. May rolled around and dad started chemo and radiation therapy. After about a week of that, and during renovations at the bar, dad noticed that his legs were starting to feel numb. Halli took him in for a full body scan to see what was going on. They found two spots on his spinal cord that were concerning. The doctors in Sioux Falls worked hard to come up with a plan to start immediate radiation on the spine along with the radiation he was already undergoing on the brain. After three weeks of brain and spinal cord radiation and still not being able to feel his legs dad asked Doctor Huber in Sioux Falls if he would refer him to Mayo Clinic in Rochester for a second opinion. He was supposed to start a round of chemo this past week but since his blood count was low they opted to wait on that for his numbers to rise a little.
I’m writing this as we head home from Rochester. We drove up yesterday afternoon for an 8:30 appointment this morning. The Doctor in Rochester suggested that we start an infusion of a drug called Pembrolizumab (Keytruda), along with an Avastin infusion dad has already been getting every two weeks. This new drug has been very successful in many types of cancer patients. There’s not enough research for the drug being used with a Glioblastoma, but the doctor was very optimistic that this drug could be successful in dads case also! He will begin this infusion, along with his Avastin infusion every three weeks instead of two weeks very soon! Doctors in Rochester want to see dad back in about 3 months to check in and see how everything is going!

Thanks for the continued prayers and support
