Newest Update

Journal entry by Ivey Woodard

Home sweet home.

Last Friday October 22nd, Drew completed week 5 of outpatient therapy at Shepherd Pathways. As soon as we completed the last meeting we hit the road to head home to NC! Crossing that state line was the best feeling. We were greeted by family at our home on Friday night; oh and we FINALLY got our Hank back and that reunion was the BEST!

It is hard to believe that it has been 3 months since Drews accident. 3 months ago I left our home in the early morning to fly to SD not knowing if Drew will make it back home with me or if he did how would that look? It has been a whirlwind of emotions coming home and all I can say is God is so good. It is amazing to see God work. To see the prayers we prayed…answered. Thank you Lord!

There are a lot of scary unknowns when your loved one has a brain injury. Will they wake up and know who you are? Will they be able to talk, walk, drive, go back to work. Will they be able to relearn things that were second nature before? This is an injury that could not be physically seen but left so much fear.  In a time of unknown and uncertainty, weakness, worry, sadness and fear… the Lord was my strength. And the one thing I knew for sure was that nothing is impossible for God, no battle was too big for him, and with faith and confidence of who He Is I believed that God already fought the battle for Drew & there was victory. We waited on the Lord. We trusted his promises. We witnessed dry bones rattling. God’s timing has been perfect through it all. And now we are home together with our family and friends and Drew is making a miraculous recovery! This is victory in God!

Each day Drew has new improvements. He is getting stronger and each doctor & therapist is SO PLEASED to see where he is in his recovery. He is now working on strengthening his wrist with different exercises. He is continuing a little therapy here at home. We hope to get him back to driving and back to work very soon! Which is so amazing! We are so proud of him for all his hard work he has put into his recovery all while keeping such a positive attitude and outlook on things!

It has been an overwhelming journey and as I look back on Drews recovery.. God is the only answer! He is the great physician that has had his healing hands on Drew through it all! Drew is a walking miracle & I (and our families and friends) will be forever grateful for the miracles He has worked! All the glory to God!

This will be the final update. Thank you all so much for following Drews journey in his recovery, for all your love, and ALL the prayers!! We cannot thank you all enough. It means so much to us. God has worked in Drew’s life but I also believe He has used this to bring this community together in prayer and to bring so many others closer to him.

Faith conquers all. And with God all things are possible.

We love you all! #Drewstrong
