Drew’s Story

Site created on February 27, 2022

On Friday, February 25 Drew was in a snowmobile accident in Minocqua, WI.  He was flown to Marshfield, WI where he spent 6 days in the ICU and 8 additional days in the hospital.  Drew was transferred to Gundersen in La Crosse for inpatient rehabilitation where he spent 6 days working on stronger to get home. He had surgery Feb. 26th  to stop any internal bleeding , an extensive surgery Feb. 28th for his broken pelvis and femur, and an additional surgery March 2nd for hip fractures and muscle damage. He additionally has fractured ribs and spine vertebrae in his mid back.  Drew had to be readmitted to the hospital on March 25th for an infection of his right hip where muscle was repaired and underwent 3 surgeries to clean out the infection and dead muscle. Despite being in pain Drew is still in good spirits and we are very thankful he is alive. We know there are many people who love him and care about him as he begins his healing process, so we will keep everyone updated using this page.  We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. We do anticipate a long recovery process for him, and are very lucky his wife is a physical therapist! For anyone wishing to help financially, his wife Taylor’s Venmo is Taylor-Gesch (last 4 digits of phone number: 7284) or visit the Go Fund Me page under "Ways to Help."  Thank you for visiting.

Journal entry by Taylor Heyes

Drew is HOME! Again! Drew discharged from the hospital today and is all settled in at home with a couple of happy dogs. He will have to return daily for antibiotic infusions for a few weeks. He also starts outpatient PT this week! Even though the hospitalization was a set back, Drew has still made good improvements in his mobility. He has started using crutches instead of a walker. Drew still has a long way to go but once again we are so glad he is home.
