Journal entry by Laurie Permaloff —
As I went for my bi or tri weekly chiropractic appointment today with Dr. Lee Kendrick, it hit me that I totally forgot to include him and his chiropractic daughter, Dr. Stephanie Martell in my long list of angels who have been here all along. Steph came to my home when I could barely get myself from my wheelchair onto the adjusting table. She not only helped me get my body moving, and adjusted my ankles so that I could begin to flex them, she used her cold laser on my feet and resolved the incredible sensitivity to even the weight of sheets on my feet. When I was really having a hard time one day and she was full of patients, her dad, Dr. Lee came over even though he was on vacation. That chiropractic family has continued the legacy of chiropractic. We really do go above and beyond the call of duty to help those in need and they sure have for me.
Dr. Lee not only keeps me adjusted, but has been instrumental in keeping my nutritional and energy field as optimum as possible. My gratitude for the two of them is beyond words!
While today feels like a really rough day, I have to acknowledge the accomplishments. I'm out of my wheelchair and sitting on my office desk chair (haven't tried to get up yet :) ).
I walked while pushing my walker all the way down our long winding driveway yesterday!! Probably why I can hardly walk today. :)
I went with my PCA to the grocery store today! Baby steps. Everyone keeps reminding me when I get discouraged at the pace of improvement that I have "One week of recovery for every day of damage done with intubation". I'm four weeks into my 11 weeks predicted but it feels like forever! I will get there if it kills me...literally. Okay so I don't have a good sense of humor today. I'm trying to smile, I really am!!
Thanks for letting me give my gratitude to those I forget and for venting. Sometimes we just need to do that. This little journal does seem like a great way to reach out to all of you! I'm grateful to have this outlet. I will try to do it more often now that my brain seems to be kicking back into gear (Angel would disagree with that as she hears me first hand confuse words like spinach and kale for the dinner salad I made..etc. )
A $25 donation to CaringBridge powers a site like Dr. Carol J.'s for two weeks. Will you make a gift to help ensure that this site stays online for them and for you?
