Dr. Anna Quinn Denzer-Emerson and Blair Abigale Emerson

Our beloved daughter, sister, wife and friend, Dr. Anna Quinn Denzer-Emerson passed away from a brain aneurysm on Wednesday, July 18, 2018. Quinn and Drew Emerson were expecting a baby girl, Blair Abigale Emerson, who passed away with her mother at their home in Gambier, Ohio. Quinn and Blair will be dearly missed by John and Debra Denzer (Quinn’s parents), Caroline Denzer (sister), Drew Emerson (husband and father), Robert and Sue Denzer (grandparents), Jon and Debbie Butler (Drew’s parents), and many friends and family members.

Quinn was born on June 18, 1987 in Mount Vernon, Ohio. From the beginning Quinn was beyond her time. Quinn was bright, inquisitive, and loving. She was her sister’s protector and best friend, a devoted daughter to her mother and father, and prospered through trials and tribulations at a young age only to be blessed with a kind spirit and genuine compassion for others. After graduating from East Knox High School, Quinn studied at The College of Wooster and received her B.A. in Psychology (May 2009). It was here that Quinn found her true calling – to be a voice for children that were ‘different’ in the school system. Quinn continued her education at Kent State University receiving a Master’s degree (May 2011) and Doctorate degree (May 2018) in School Psychology. Throughout her time as a school psychologist, Quinn positively impacted so many. Quinn often said, “if you’re not going to do the right thing, why do it at all”. And that was how Quinn lived her life. Quinn always did the right thing for her students and others. In addition, Quinn will always be remembered by her PhD dissertation where Quinn evaluated a psychoeducationally-based program addressing bullying among students with disabilities through teacher training. Quinn believed that students who were perceived as ‘different’ are the students that need educator’s most rigorous and unrelenting support. Her dissertation was proven to do just that. Quinn was a bright and rising star in our education system, and someone who was held to high regard. Quinn served as a dedicated school psychologist in Akron, Cardington, Fredricktown, and finally Mount Vernon. Quinn’s goal was to go back to Mount Vernon where it all started and make a difference.

Quinn was not only successful in her career, but she was a loving wife to Drew Emerson. Both Quinn and Drew were graduates from The College of Wooster, and wed on July 2, 2016. Quinn and Drew had a love so honest and pure. It was in Drew that Quinn found comfort and support, something that she always sought to find. Drew blessed Quinn with unconditional acceptance, loyalty and love. Shortly after they were wed, Quinn and Drew moved into their first home in Gambier where they were surrounded by friends and family that loved them dearly. Soon after, Quinn and Drew learned that Quinn was pregnant with a baby girl, named Blair Abigale, who was to be born on September 14, 2018.

Quinn will always be remembered for her joy of life, wit, faith in God, tenacity, and her ability to overcome many obstacles. It is an unfathomable tragedy; however, it gives her family great peace to know that Quinn was at the pinnacle of happiness and fulfillment at this point in her life. Therefore, it is important to celebrate the life and the impact that these two souls had on earth.

The Denzer and Emerson families plan to celebrate the life of Dr. Anna Quinn Denzer-Emerson and Blair Abigale Emerson on Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Schnormeier Event Center in Ariel-Foundation Park, Mount Vernon, Ohio beginning at 7:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the nonprofit organization, New Directions, where Quinn proudly served as a board member. Donations can be made to: PO Box 453, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050. Please notate on your donation that it be made in memory of Dr. Anna Quinn Denzer-Emerson.
