Douglas James Henderson, 92, of Mississauga, Ontario, passed away peacefully on January 6th, 2021 at the Credit Valley Hospital. 

Doug was born and raised in Toronto and entered the work force early at the age of 15.  At that time, World War Two had many young men going to war.  The government lowered the age to get a driver’s license to 15 years old.  Doug then became a delivery truck driver for the T Eaton Department Store Company.  Shortly thereafter, Doug entered real estate where he enjoyed a wonderful, life-long career first in residential and then in commercial real estate.  He retired from 43 years at A.E.LePage/Royal LePage in the early 1990s. 

In retirement, Doug loved to spend time with family and friends, play golf, go to the cottage and his home in Florida.  He also had a passion to travel and enjoyed many trips in the last number of years with his wife Jacqueline who survives him.   

Doug is also survived by his daughter Janet and her husband Wayne Halenda, his son Brad and his wife Tanya Henderson and his brother Bruce.  Doug was a proud grandfather to Brandon, Austin & his wife Samantha, Cole and Blair.  Doug was also a loving stepfather to Tim and Tom Thorney,  Susan (Thorney) Campbell and step-grandfather to Mitchell, Alex, Joel, Jenna, Jacqueline and Brianna.

Doug was predeceased by parents James and Issa, his loving stepmother Violet, his sister Barbara, his wife of 43 year - Bunty, his daughter-in-law Laurie and many other friends and family who await the opportunity to reunite with him.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Credit Valley Hospital and Erin Meadows for their kindness and compassion for Doug over the past few years.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 11th, 2021, at 1p.m. at the Turner & Porter Funeral Home. Due to pandemic restrictions, the service will be restricted to immediate family only.  The event will be live-streamed and recorded.  Anyone interested in being invited please, write to bradhenderson@me.com for instructions.    

The family insists that people make donations in lieu of flowers in support of either your favorite charity or Doug’s favorite, Yorkminister Park Baptist Church. 

Doug’s thoughts on living and passing on. 

Doug would often say “live long enough so that you can be a problem to your children.”  Janet and Brad lovingly say he achieved this goal. 

When asked how long he planned to live, Doug would always respond “well I am not buying any green bananas.”  True to his word, he passed with no green bananas on hand.

In the end, we are thankful that Doug had a very long life.  We are all better for having him in our lives.  He was always loved, and he will always be missed and remembered.
