Journal entry by Jerry Lynch —
I just finished watching the video of Doug's service yesterday at St. James. What a beautifully produced video. As I was sharing my reflections, I realized that I forgot to bring a small book from which to read an amazing bit of old poetry. One of the most treasured poets of Persia (Iran) is Hafiz (1320-1389). In a small book entitled: "The Subject Tonight Is Love - 60 Wild and Sweet Poems of Hafiz", version by Daniel Ladinsky. One poem captured the love we all witnessed between Douglas and Charles.
IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME IN HEAVEN
It happens all the time in heaven,
And some day
It will begin to happen
Again on earth ---
That men and women who are married,
And men and men who are Lovers
And women and women who give each other Light
Often will get down on their knees
And while so tenderly Holding their lover's hand,
With tears in their eyes, Will sincerely speak, saying,
" My dear,
How can I be more loving to you;
How can I be more Kind?"
