Doug’s Story

Site created on April 26, 2023

On January 6th Dad was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. After three rounds of chemotherapy treatment to keep it at bay the Leukemia has advanced. On Sunday April 23rd Dad was taken to U of M Fairview Hospital with an infection. Things have rapidly progressed and he is now on palliative care. He continues to be positive and upbeat and is facing what is ahead with his usual calm, positive demeanor. Your thoughts and prayers for a peaceful transition and strength for our family are appreciated.

Journal entry by Kyle Hanson

Last night, around 9:00, dad left us. Dad went into a deep sleep around 3:30 and did not wake up again. He peacefully took his last breath with Kevin at his side and we were all able to say our goodbyes last night. We thank you for your outpouring of prayers and thoughts. He was an amazingly kind father, a loving husband, a fantastic grandfather and good friend to so many. We will miss him, but know that he is at peace.
