Journal entry by Dory Shaw Ford —
One year today! In fact I think it is just about the time I got out of the operating room!
How lucky and blessed am I in so many ways? But, feeling especially lucky and blessed because the kidney team is reunited -- me, my mom, Julie and Craig. What a great way to commemorate the day.
Things are going well here. I feel fine. After the winter flu season I may even be able to hop on an airplane, according to my doctor. My mom and I went to the theater to see MJ the Musical (see photo of my beautiful mom.) It was my first really public indoor outing and it felt great.
I'm still fighting the BK virus and may be going back on infusions. That said, my level is 8800 down from 800,000. So, definitely much better.
This weekend we will be celebrating my amazing mom's 90th birthday, Michael's 35th, Liam's 6th and of course my kidney's first birthday/anniversary. A four generation celebration!
My mom is doing well with her cancer treatments. A few side effects, but she is a trooper! She will have scans in a couple of weeks and we will get some indication of how the medication is working. Fingers crossed/prayers please!
Thanks for being there and showing your concern for a full year now. I'm truly blessed in so many ways -- my family and friends are at the top of the list.
Virtual hugs to you all!
