Dorothy had a malignant brain tumor (the size of a strawberry) removed on Christmas morning.  The family is choosing not to discuss the type or grade of tumor, believing each patient’s medical experience is unique.

Dorothy starts her initial 6 weeks of treatment on Monday, January 29, combining radiation with oral chemo, after which she will take an oral chemo for 6-12 months.  Dorothy’s health will be monitored closely throughout treatment by her team in Richmond to determine the need to make adjustments.

Dorothy and Eric believe their positive attitude combined with the love and support of their friends and family will have a powerful impact on her progress.  The family is grateful for your thoughts, prayers, and support throughout their journey.

Journal entry by Eric Nelson

I wanted to let you know that Dorothy passed away peacefully, earlier this morning.

Dorothy & I were listening to songs as the sun was rising, I decided to open our front door so Dorothy could see the colors of the sunrise.  As I opened the door there were birds chirping, like when her mother passed away.  I told Dory that the birds were her parents telling her that it was time to join them, and the last song we listened to was “I Got You Babe” from Sonny & Cher.
