Dorothy’s Story

Site created on April 7, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Dorothy has had back pain for the past 4 years. Since November of 2017, Dorothy wore a back brace for a year and had multiple shots to try and decrease the pain and increase her mobility. Those treatments did not bring any relief or increased mobility back to Dorothy. After consultation from Twin Cities Spine Center, Dr. Pinto suggested spine surgery.  On March 4th, Dorothy had a 7-hour spine surgery at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Dr. Pinto removed her L2 vertebrae and replaced it with a cage, repaired her nerve channel and fused the T12 through  L3 vertebrae. Dorothy was released from the hospital on March 11th to Ebenezer Ridges Transitional Care Center in Burnsville and has been there since that time.

Thank you for all the kind words, love and support! If you would like to send a card or note to Dorothy, please mail to the address below or email at: r.d.barton@comcast.net

Newest Update

Journal entry by Ron Barton

Good morning.   We have some good news to report, Dorothy has done reasonably well at Village Health Care Center, she was able to walk with her Walker and the Physical Therapist a total of 207 feet at one time, not in one try, but rest stops every 30 - 40ft.  and she did equally well with the Occupational Therapist.  To pass Therapy and to Go Home with Therapist help for the next 8 to 10 weeks.   Getting up from a chair, out of bed, standing and other movements are still very difficult.  But she is HOME with a new bed and sitting in her recliner, enjoying her favorite TV programs, Dorothy is very, very happy.  This all started with a hospital stay June 1st to June 4th.  with Chronic Diastolic Congestive Heart Failure and again not able to breath & speak on the morning of September 3rd. heart stoppage on the 4th, revival and IMPLANTABE CARDIOVERTER DEFIBRILLATOR IMPLANTED on September 7th.  Plus, she had Covert this entire time at Southdale Heart Hospital, was isolated from all human contact.  Was a real Bummer for sure.  We thank you for all your Thoughts & Prayers, Cards and letters, phone calls, E-mails from many, many people.  The love shown is a very much appreciated.

Thanks Again

Ron, David, Doug & Duane (Dewy)
