Doris ’s Story

Site created on October 7, 2022

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On Tuesday October 4th we received the diagnosis we were not hoping for. Doris had been feeling weak and tired for a few weeks prior to this. She was seen by her regular physician and they found her white blood cell and hemoglobin counts to be drastically low. She was then sent to the hospital to have a blood transfusion. This only provided a small improvement in her blood count and she was then referred to an oncologist who ordered a bone marrow biopsy. She had to wait for the results over the weekend and at her appointment on Tuesday October 4th she was given the result none of us were hoping for.
She has an aggressive leukemia that has no treatment option. This is a rare form of leukemia caused by her previous radiation and chemotherapy. Her cancer is too far along for a treatment to be beneficial for her and the goal is to give her comfort for the remaining time she has. It was her decision to seek hospice care and be at home.
She is week and resting a lot. Hospice nurses will be coming into the home and we will be looking in on her daily. At this time she is too weak for visitors. However she would love to read your well wishes on her CaringBridge site. We will do our best to update often.
