Many of you have asked about Dooner's stroke and his challenges. I wanted to share more detail about that!
Dooner suffered a blood clot in the right hemisphere of his brain, causing the stroke. The right side of the brain controls all the physical responses to the left side of your body. That is why Dooner struggles with walking, standing with balance, grasping with his left hand, and some difficulty with vision in the left eye. He also struggles with speech. The right side of the brain also controls memory, attention, reasoning, and basic problem solving skills. Because of the stroke, we've seen some cognitive impairments regarding some of these listed above. Sometimes he's confused, but most of the time his memory is sharp. Dooner is strengthening that right side each day as he moves forward.
Brain injuries take much needed time to heal, and although Dooner suffered so much trauma to that right side, he's been such a stubborn fighter through it all!
