Donna ’s Story

Site created on November 23, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. Donna became ill, at home, on Tuesday 11/17/2020. She was admitted to the ICU at Swedish Issaquah Hospital that afternoon. She was diagnosed with a blood clot in her Right lung, Pneumonia, and bacterial infection in her blood and her urine. Thankfully, she tested negative for COVID-19. Early morning on Wednesday, 11/18, Donna needed to be intubated and placed on a ventilator. Her fever was as high as 105, before the antibiotics took control of the infections. Fortunately, she was able to come off the ventilator and breathe on her own by the afternoon of 11/19. Her condition improved enough by Saturday, 11/21, that she was transferred out of the ICU, to a Medical Unit.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Barbara Zuelzke

Its the end of the 2nd full day, of Mother being home from the hospital.
She is doing ok.
Lots of resting in chair or on couch.
Taking laps around the kitchen whenever she's up.
Still adapting to the effects of a couple of new meds, with some side effects like headaches,  dizziness and nausea.
She told me today, she has no memory of being in the ICU.  She has amnesia for about 5 of the 13 days she was hospitalized.
She keeps expressing how grateful she is to be home.
Her first physical therapy session in the home will be tomorrow.
