Journal entry by Donna Conner —
I was waiting until Donna had her 4 week follow-up before posting another update. That appointment was today and the assessment of her recovery was that she is doing very well. Her mobility is good, the pain she was having in her back, hip and leg is gone - PTL! The pain she is currently experiencing is associated with the surgery and is completely normal for having gone through such a large surgery. In an earlier post I mentioned the issue with the nerves that control bladder being in shock from the surgery. When Kim came down the weekend of 6/23, she removed the Foley catheter and the "plumbing" worked normally - another PTL! So going forward - home PT and OT has finished doing their thing, so the Dr wants Donna to continue her normal home routine for a couple of weeks before deciding if she wants to do some out-patient therapy. He gave her a script for them should she decide to opt for some strengthening exercises in the future. Her next follow-up appt is 8/9, at which time they will do x-rays of her neck and back to check and see how the bone and hardware fusion is progressing. She was told it would take 2 years before everything was solidly fussed together. Thank you for your continued prayers!
