Journal entry by Tracy McGoldrick

Good morning all of you lovely friends and family !!  I wanted to write because I just returned from seeing Don and Karen for 4 days. I had some anxiety issues last few years and flying has been a trigger for me. Anyway, I FINALLY did it (Steve came along-see photo of him and 'Beau!) and so glad I did. All we did was laugh, chat and eat and watch FOOTBALL.  Karen, of course, cooked and doted on us as usual. It was lovely.
Dad:

Dad is at his thinnest I have ever seen him (see photo 2). He looks pretty good though considering all that he's been through.  He is eating very well and seems to have a decent appetite which was non-existent for a bit after being released from the hospital.  He is still very weak (yet thinks he is NOT). He is not driving yet and only goes out of the house to church and small errands.  So- - I ask you, GO VISIT!
He loves the time with all of his loved ones.
We had so many laughs and I can't wait to head back with the family for Thanksgiving or Xmas.

Dad needs to focus on building strength.  I have had the pleasure of working with a registered dietitian where Karen knows what types of food to continue giving him. Water and iced tea, V8 and smoothies seems to be working well with hydration.  Remember, he never had 'water'!

He sees a wound doc weekly and the wound is SO SMALL!  I can't believe it.   He had an issue with a fistula inside the wound about a month ago and that seems to be doing "okay" with no pain and no reason to have a surgery to fix it at this point.

The GI seems to be working well and his comfort level is pretty darn good for all that he's gone through since Dec 3rd.  THANK YOU ALL FOR READING
again, GO SEE THEM and enjoy their hospitality.

Til my next posting......
