Don’s Story

Site created on March 12, 2020

Last summer, Don had surgery to remove melanoma from his chest. Nearby lymph nodes were checked and came back clear, so no further testing was done. Doctors believe what has transpired recently stems from the melanoma, but more testing will need to be done to know for sure. We thought it would be nice to update everyone in one place, as we know a lot of people care about and love Don. Our family appreciates all of the prayers and well wishes.

Journal entry by Lauren Hoekstra

We are so proud of Don for everything he accomplished and the lives he touched. Reading all of your stories and memories is so special. Seeing the articles and posts helps us remember what a legacy he left behind. We hope we can all be together to talk, laugh, cry, and celebrate the amazing man he is someday soon.

We will be having a private burial with our immediate family this week and a Celebration of life at a later date.

Again, thank you for lifting our family in prayer during this time. We are so thankful for all of you and even more thankful our dad/husband/grandpa was loved by so many.

Thank you everyone
