Don’s Story

Site created on August 12, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
In October 2015 Don was diagnosed with GIST (Gastro-Intestinal Stromal Tumor) which is one of many sarcomas. He was able to be treated with a daily targeted therapy pill- basically- up until then end of last year. With each different medication, the effects were less than previous. He eventually got to the point where nothing was working well anymore and was also tired of how they made him feel so terrible.
At the end of July, he made the brave decision to stop all treatment and enter into home hospice care on August 2nd.
His condition continues to worsen each day and is progressing very rapidly unfortunately.
The kids and I are taking care of him along with our wonderful hospice team and some outside home health agency help a couple days a week.
He fought his cancer for almost 4 years.
