Moving across town is one of the easier times when it comes to moving homes. While this happens a majority of the time, long-distance moves are a thing, and they can be the most chaotic event of your life. The logistics of moving a family from a large home in one part of the country to states over to possibly a smaller place means you'll need to pack, transport, and organize accordingly.

If you have never moved before, or this is your first time moving as a family, you might have particular concerns. You could wonder how you are going to get the family there, along with everything else out of your home in a single move. Having to make multiple trips will get expensive and not something people generally want to do. Here we have included some distressing things to focus on to make your relocation a smidge easier.

Starting Early

Who says you have to pack the night before a move? Get a jump start on packing. This is probably one of the best pieces of advice to give someone that knows they will be moving a month in advance or sometimes more. Use the time you have and be productive. Check out the places to live, get an idea of who your utility companies will be, and prepare to downsize some of your stuff.

Eliminate Things You Don't Need

Along with getting a jump start on the move, you might want to go through your items and decide to pitch and donate some things. Eliminating things you don't need and giving to non profit organizations can make a move go smoother. It can also remove a bunch of bulk you don't need down the road.

Schedule a Moving Company

Scheduling a moving company will be the best asset to your move. If you are thinking about doing it on your own, think again. Trying to move an entire house in one go is nearly impossible unless you have a group of friends a bunch of trucks or invest in a huge U-haul. Even still, you will have to do the heavy lifting, which is out of the question for those with bad backs.

Have Utilities Called Ready For Shut-Off/ Turn-On

Before leaving your old place, you need to schedule the shut off of the utilities, and turn on the new ones in your name. This way, you will be ready to go the day you get there and not worried why the lights are off, and you can't get ahold of the power company until Monday morning.
