Dad got a stomach bug last week. He was very dizzy and fell twice. I was going to take him to urgent care but it’s an ordeal to get from bed to car. I got the ambulance to take him. Tests showed he was anemic with hemoglobin at a 6.  CT of the abdomen (he had pain) showed a fistula going through a mass in his colon. So there was also terrible infection all in the abdominal cavity.  He got two pints of blood and was transferred to Wake Raleigh. He survived a 4 hour surgery and got to ICU at midnight Saturday.  They successfully took the vent tube out yesterday and he continues to make small progress.

We stayed with dad last night until 10. Got a call at 2 that his breathing was labored. We were with him until he passed at 845. It was peaceful and he was not alone. I played Louie Armstrong, Madame Butterfly, Phantom of the Opera and bird sounds in the first for him. He gave some smiles and great hand squeezes. I felt him communicating. And I always will
