Journal entry by robyn paino

As much as I love reporting all of Doms milestones and progress, I imagine this may be one of my last entries.  Ever since his hard collar was removed on March 14th, he has been released to slowly get back to things! He has been doing exercises to progressively get his range of motion back in his neck.  He is back to lifting weights again and increasing his cardio, very slowly, but surely! Oh and yesterday was the first day I have not driven Dom to school, he is now back to driving with his brother! 🥳

Dom went to the cardiologist on the 21st to follow up with more testing of this rare congenital WPW heart issue that we have learned about. They have concluded that he is at a very low risk for cardiac arrest.  Hearing those 2 in the same sentence doesn’t sound super convincing to me.  None the less, they told him he can get an ablation done to his heart when he wishes so he never has to worry about it again, or he can live with the possibility.  They told him to focus on this recovery first.  He has stated he does want to have this done at some point in the near future for his peace of mind.

Since he had seizures from his head injury at the time of the accident, he has been on anti seizure meds which he’s been recently weening off of.  We have learned that if you have had a history of seizures, you must wait 6 months before driving. So! he will continue to be at the mercy of his family and friends to tote him around for another month….. I’m hoping just in time for him to drive to Prom! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Senior spring break was different for Dom.  While many of his fellow classmates partied over spring break on the beach, that is something he is still not in a position to do.  And while others stayed back to play baseball, he was not able to do that. However! even tho he can’t play, he hasn’t missed a game or practice.  He’s been there to support others as he was once supported -which I love,:) He is also now officially been allowed to play catch with a tennis ball! 🤗 Hoping in time, he can graduate to a real baseball.  We also took an official tour of Mizzou for Dom which I really think has given  him something to look forward to:)🐯

Despite all of these  challenges in his life (as I mentioned before), there has awakened a desire within him to go back to church.  This has inspired all of us to go back to church! (accept for Vince, because he doesn’t need to as he’s been living his best life ever lately 😂 lol.)

Also, I may have mentioned this before, but Lindbergh Business Dept. raised $550 for Dom.  He wanted to donate the $500 -in turn to Quintyns favorite love, The Lindbergh Basketball Program.. This was also (in hopes of a request from Dom) for the Lindbergh annual basketball tournament to be named after Q.  He has not yet gotten a response on this, so anyone who would like to see this happen, we encourage you to reach out to Coach Biggs.  There is power in numbers!🙏🏼

Tonight we will be attending the opening day for Qs other favorite sport- Volleyball! They will be honoring Quintyn tonight and we would not miss it for the world.  I’m sure Yvonne and the boys on the team would love more support if your free:) Don’t forget your crocs and pjs!

Tomorrow marks 5 months since the accident and it’s still surreal.  It’s hard to believe Dom has traveled this far, and it is so miraculous to me that God made our bodies with the ability to heal itself….Of course it is never just by “itself”, the power of prayer, love, and support were instrumental! ❤️.

In reflection, the amount of physical,  mental, and emotional healing has been quite the journey.  It has become clear how vital all of our mindsets have had to be.   Focussing on what we do have in the midst of so much loss and devastation has been a daily practice for us.  There is one thing for certain, none of us, especially Dom, will ever see life the same, and to me, that is the biggest blessing of all. There is a quote that comes to mind that sums up his new perception on life.  It is to “Live in the world, but not of the world.”

I used to be proud of things like Dom’s athletic abilities and performances and his grades at school, but I’ve never been so proud of him as I am right now.
