Journal entry by Tamara Barnett —
At 12:06am Sunday my phone rang caller ID read: Minneapolis, MN. I answered this is Arlene, Hi Arlene this is Courtney. I wanted to call you and let you know D'Juana's secretions have ramped up in her throat, she's not swallowing anymore. I figured I would call, if you and Tamara would like to come down this is a marker we watch for.
Tamara and I arrived about 12:36am. We sat and watched her for hours, we talked with the nurse she spoke of losing her dad a couple years ago if the same cancer. Hearing people's experience's, helps us.
We sat bed side watching and listening to D'Juana. Tamara say Shu Shu Shu shalaha, a lullaby that would calm our sister when she was toddler. We held her hand, rubbed her legs, feet (Tamara is the only one who does a good job a rubbing her feet) She slept comfortably until about 7:30am. Tamara was going to go home and get some sleep. She let D'Juana know she was leaving and she began to get restless. She's never been a fan of Tamara leaving.
I pressed the little couch up against her bed, curled up with my arm extended holding onto Stumpy. (D'Juana's amputated left arm)and feel asleep myself for about 3-4 hours.
Its now 4:26am on Monday April 29th- I believe she just took her last breath.
May your light forever shine bright our dear sister.
