Journal entry by Sarah Nielsen —
”I need to offer up a shout out to our friend, author, humorist, and all around wise soul, Sarah, for initiating and maintaining this site. My family is over the top appreciative of her communications skills and devotion to purpose.
A simple thank you does not seem like an adequate response for all of your outpourings of support. But to each of you who have made entries to my site, and to those of you who have sent your encouragement through other digital pathways I am blown away by the heaps of positive energy transferred my way. Your many cards, letters ,and phone calls are humbling and have certainly buoyed my spirits!
This week I have successfully passed the critical 2 weeks post surgery mark and I am feeling really good. Comparisons are being drawn relative to my rapid recovery progress with others who have had a similar quad bypass procedure. Apparently my rebound is remarkably accelerated from the norm. This healing is a blessing and very reassuring anticipating transitioning back to life prior to heart problems. I will start a cardiac rehab program at Summit Hospital next week.
As I contemplate this renewed lease on life, I wish to close out this CaringBridge site by sharing an observation. Through lessons learned while logging over 50 years of work in a bunch of jobs – largely in the tech field doing sales, marketing, and support type roles. I have observed that adjectives like the following set the tone of all of the ecosystems in which I have labored. I believe that my work environments were typical of many others that subscribe to marinating the mind with these performance related thoughts to bake a worldly recipe necessary for "making it"
Improve, Advance Higher, More, Better, Win Succeed.
They can I.Q. you and run you through
Their rigorous details
They can do their best to rate you
And they'll place you on the charts
And then back it up with scientific smarts
But there's more to what you're worth
Than their human eyes can see
Oh, I say the measure of a man Is not how tall you stand
How wealthy or intelligent you are
'Cause I've found out the measure of a man
God knows and understands
For He looks inside to the bottom of your heart
And what's in the heart defines
The measure of a man
