Journal

We know it’s been awhile since we’ve offered any updates, and thought we would today...as we celebrate four months since Dad’s transplant! It’s hard to believe that it’s been four months since the day we got “the call”, and it’s even harder to recollect everything that’s happened in that four months.
  • Christmas in Nashville
  • Multiple hospitalizations
  • Living in 2 different apartments near Vanderbilt
  • Cardiac rehab
  • Countless labs
  • Multiple heart caths
And all of that in the midst of losing Mom three months ago. So, when people ask how Dad is doing, it sort of always warrants two answers. He’s regained the weight that he so drastically lost after the transplant, and is back to his “fighting weight”. He’s driving and getting out and about. He’s been healthy and feeling great, with a few adjustments being made to his meds to help when this may feel “off”...something we knew would be part of this post-transplant journey. He’s been safe and healthy amid this Covid pandemic.

And, like all of us, he’s still heartbroken and trying to figure out life without Mom. He’s an old school guy, so if you reach out and ask how he is, he’s going to say “fine”. He’s got us kids, and a few very close friends that he’ll talk with and continue to work through that grief, so don’t worry about him “keeping everything bottled up”.

But we wanted to include the attached picture, because we want everyone to see his smile...something that despite all he’s had to handle, he still has.

We’re so thankful for everyone who has walked this journey with us, and barring any major changes, we most likely won’t be making any further posts on this site. Please believe that “no news is good news”, and if anything changes we will make you all aware, because we so sincerely appreciate your support and prayers.

With gratitude that words could never express, thank you.

- Team Wilkins
