Dick and Enola’s Story

Site created on November 21, 2023

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

This year has been a challenging one for Dick medically as his health has declined over the past few months.  He has fought hard to stay active tending his garden and mowing his lawn. However, with each health crisis, he was never able to recover fully.  He experienced a fall in early November and has been hospitalized at Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria since then.  We are currently utilizing palliative care to keep him comfortable.  He has expressed his wishes to "be with the Lord" and has repeatedly reminded all who enter his room how much he loves them.

Enola has been healthy most of this year.  She continued to enjoy crocheting and cooking for anyone who visited.  On the evening of August 25th, Enola suffered a brain aneurysm/stroke. By providence, Ryan (David's middle son) was visiting Mamaw and Papaw and he was able with the help of Aunt Lynda to get Enola into the car and to the hospital in Ferriday.  She was life-flighted to Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge where a neurosurgeon operated to repair the bleed.  She spent several weeks in Neuro ICU and another floor to regain her strength.  She was discharged to a rehab hospital in Vidalia and is currently in The Columns in Jonesville.  We hope to move her to a facility in Kilgore, TX near Glenn and Danielle, and their family.

To say that this has been a challenging time for all of us would be an understatement.  Any one of these things would be difficult enough, but having to navigate them both simultaneously has been extremely difficult.  We are so grateful for family and friends who have called, visited, and offered food, etc... You have meant more to us than you know! Please continue to pray for us as we seek to provide Dick with the dignified ending that he so clearly wants and deserves.  It is hard on all who love him and there are so many!!! Please pray that we know how to best help Enola have the best quality of life available to her. We love them both so much and are so grateful for everything they have done for us.

Please feel free to call if you would like more details or wish to speak to us in person.  Mike's number is 931-247-4851.  Thank you for your concern and being a part of Dick and Enola's lives. They are truly special people.
