Dian’s Story

Site created on April 26, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On April 24th our Mom (Dian) suffered a ruptured aneurysm in her brain.  She underwent 5 hours of surgery to repair the aneurysm. She is currently in the Neuro ICU at the University of Iowa Hospital and will be for at least a week.  She is in critical condition.  She is awake, able to speak clearly and has full movement. She also has quite a bit of pain in her head and neck.   At this time we are asking for no visitors as we are trying to keep her from being over stimulated and to trying to help prevent infections.  We will do our best to post updates as they are available.

Thank you all for your prayers & please keep them coming,

Melissa & Brett

Newest Update

Journal entry by Melissa Tjepkes

I know it has been a long time since I have posted an update as there was not much to say during rehab.  Things took a dramatic change over the last couple of weeks.  Mom is going home!  The staff from Manor Care did a home visit with her today which consisted of taking her to her apartment and walking her through her daily routine.  All went well.  Mom will be released from Manor Care on this coming Friday, June 15th.  She is going home and will be once again living on her own.  I will head down there on to bring her home and I will stay for a few days to make sure she is adjusting to being at home.  Mom doesn't remember any of her time in the hospital and isn't retaining much about the rehab facility - she can NOT wait to go home!!  I know that she is looking forward to eating her own cooking and not being at the mercy of others telling her when to eat, sleep etc. Brett and I are nervous about her living alone but we both know this is what she wants/needs.  We will be keeping extra tabs on her from how on.

Thank you to everyone who has visited and sent cards/packages to Mom, it has meant a lot to all of us.  Thank you also for all of the prayers it is obvious that prayer works.  Thank you to everyone who has been there for me and Brett as well.  I'll post again with an update after Mom has been home for a few days.
