Diane’s Story

Site created on May 3, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. On  Wednesday May 1st, Diane underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor that was found on Tuesday April 30. The tumor was sent to pathology. On May 15th, we got the results back from the doctor and Diane was diagnosed with grade IV Glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is an aggressive and fast moving brain cancer. On May 29th, Diane had her first radiation and chemo treatment. She finished radiation on July 10th and chemo on July 11th. A few days later she was admitted to the hospital with two Pulmonary Embolisms (lung clots in the lungs). She spent a few days in the hospital and then was able to go home. Unfortunately, she will have to be on blood thinners for the rest of her life to help prevent future blood clots. on August 7th she had her first doctor's appt since finishing treatment and everything looked okay. The plan was to start the cycles of chemo; 5 days of chemo with three weeks off. On August 13th, Diane went back into the hospital after having severe hip pain and trouble walking. We are still awaiting the results of the cultures, but the doctor does not believe that she has an infection. It is more likely that she is just dehydrated and weak due to a lack of eating and drinking.
