Derrick’s Story

Site created on March 9, 2020

Derrick Ludzack was involved in a horrific car accident on Thursday March 5th just south of Cable WI on Highway 63 during a snow storm.  Derrick remains in the St Marys Trauma Center in Duluth with severe brain injuries and broken bones, he is fighting to regain consciousness and open his eyes.   His family and friends remain by his side during this difficult time for all of us.  We are using Caring Bridge to  keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Journal entry by Lenora Ludzack

Sorry folks. The week gets away from from me. Between Derrick and my job by the time evening comes I’m done. When I get home from work I want to spend it with Derrick. He has been doing pretty good. His legs are swollen a bit. Today he had his therapy’s in the afternoon. Tomorrow Thursday and Friday also so he has a full week. He has been trying hard. He can put on his shoes and tie them. From the time he wakes up in the morning and gets dressed. Goes to the bathroom and hits the table for breakfast it takes almost a hour.  He’s lost his balance a few times and we are always at his side to help if he needs it.  When he is in therapy it’s hard work for him. When he’s home Jeff is working with him on doing things. He helped finish the stair railing. He does his breathing machine a few times a day  so he is making progress slowly. I’m proud of how he is trying.
