Newest Update

Journal entry by DeLynn Unema

Hello friends and family!

Here is my update that has turned into more of a quarterly update LOL. I have not updated since December!! Yikes!
Not a lot to report here but a couple of new updates.

Our insurance company has decided that one year of my chemo med was enough ;) and so my last dose was in January. I had a really good conversation with my oncologist about that and she is really okay with that. She said to me that the first year is actually the most important and you gain the most benefit from that first year, the insurance companies just have not yet caught up the most recent research that is showing basically 'one year is great, two years is a little better'. She has assured me not to worry about this. I have a real peace about it and continue to do very well. And I trust her completely. This is such a new therapy that it takes the rest of the world a while to catch up I guess.

The other bit of good news is that I just had another blood test (I do this every three months now) that checks for my specific cancer DNA in my blood and it was negative! That is amazing and lets me also breathe a sigh of relief. My next scans and appts will be in June.

I continue on with some annoying little side effects of being a post cancer treatment patient but over all can mostly look past them and live quite a normal life. I am so thankful for that! I am blessed to continue to spend my best times with my family and I am so grateful that we are all so close. Corey continues to be a rock for me and continues to do so much for me at home. And he puts up with my crazy ~ that says a lot about his character! :)

We just celebrated the Christian's most important holiday of the year ~ Jesus was raised from the dead. This gift of Him taking all of my sin and my shame on Him and dying on the cross for me is the most important constant in my life. I am not perfect, I have a lot to work on, I make mistakes and bad choices daily ~ but I am a child of the King, the One True God and because of that I can face the rest of today, and tomorrow whatever that may bring. This gift is for you too! Please get ahold of me if you'd like to talk more about that.

It does not mean that life is not hard and painful and exhausting. We all are called to carry so many burdens at times, and they can be filled with so much hurt and so much questioning. I just want to be faithful in looking up and living out the faith that I profess I have. We were not promised a life without hurt and problems BUT we are promised by a God who lived our hurts Himself that He will walk with us. And I firmly believe that He can bring good out of any 'bad' that we endure. I am thankful that this world is not my real home ~ my eternal life is secured because of the death and resurrection of Jesus himself. So is yours!

I have a lot of feelings about a lot of things this weekend ~ I won't go into detail here, but guys: God is good and is always the first one we should turn to in any situation.

Okay ~ probably no more updates until June :)  No news is good news basically from here on out. Thanks so so much for all of the love that you all continue to show to me and our family. We are so very blessed.

Happy Easter!
