Delores’s Story

Site created on March 8, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

For financial reasons, Delores had delayed medical checkups and treatment for several years. In December, 2017, she could no longer put off seeing the doctor in spite of finances. On her birthday, December 28, she was officially diagnosed with breast cancer. In the following weeks she found out that the cancer had metastasized to her femur near her hip. The condition of the bone was such that she was in danger of shattering the bone. Surgery and a rod placed into the bone has restored her mobility. Between the middle of December and today (March 8, 2018) she has had  four surgeries.

The current treatment plan is to treat the cancer systemically with 12 weeks of chemo and additional therapies that support the effectiveness of the chemo then surgery for the breast cancer. In the meantime, it seems she may have some cardiovascular issues that need addressing. She will have an ultrasound on her heart next week.

An enerisim of 5 to 6 cm was the result of the ultrasound. Surgery will be taking place after chemo is done.

Chemo is now 50% done. I am now sporting the bald look.

I am in good spirits and a positive take on my current medical condition.

After the enerisim surgery, then we go back and pick up the breast surgery.

Journal entry by Delores Carlson

Leg is swollen, but not as bad as yesterday. It seems to go down a little when I stay off of it. Oh, well I got grocery shopping done last night and this morning. Feeling pretty good today.
