Lots of exciting things are happening outside in Backyard Bird land today.  Wilbur and Bertha have been frantically feeding their little ones starting early in the morning until dusk and there's a lot of squawking coming from the nest. Wayne and Watson are the loudest and pushiest and Wanda and Willow seem to be intimidated by the thought of flight. However, while a guy was measuring for our new picture window we happened to look out and there was Wanda sitting on top of the birdhouse thinking hard about where to fly and Willow was peeking her head out to get the lay of the land. I think by the way she flew out so swiftly she may have had a little shove from her brothers who were chomping at the bit to be free from the house to be on their own. I'm so glad we were by the window at the exact time of the fledging or we would have missed it because it's such a fast process.
Bertha was sitting under the patio chair watching the kids fly and as soon as the last one left the nest she joined them in the woods where their learning will begin. I think they will have class for two weeks and then graduation will give them their much desired total freedom. Hopefully next year a new Wren family will choose our birdhouse that has a glass back that attaches to our window so we can watch the building procedure. Maybe we'll have to take the other birdhouse down so they have no choice. Anyway it is fun to watch and marvel at God's creation. By the way.....Mr. Squirrel's kid is now taking over for his dad....he has a very thin tail so he's easy to identify. Dad must have told him about the Maple tree in the front because he has been regularly checking it out and calculating the distance from the limbs to the roof. I'm pretty sure he will make it because he almost made it from the box where we keep the seed to the squirrel guard. Actually he made it but he couldn't hang on.....YET....If he's like dad he will not be giving up anytime soon.
Bye for now from Backyard Bird land where God's handiwork is amazing and very entertaining!
