Declan was supposed to start his second admission last Tuesday 5/21. However, he got delayed because his platelets were too low. We weren’t expecting the delay so we were a little taken aback. But it ended up being a huge blessing. He got to go to school all week because his neutrophils were at a good level and he felt good. He was able to perform in his spring concert and he felt good to spend a weekend away at the lake house. This Tuesday started his second admission. Chris brought him up at 11 am. It was a long day of waiting for his hydration and his ph of his urine to be at the correct levels to start. He ended up starting his 24 hour chemo at 8:30pm. Wednesday night Finn, Scarlett and I came up to switch with Chris and so the other kids could see Declan and his room and the hospital. We got to the hospital about 8 pm. Then they ran his 24 hour blood draw. The level needed to be below 120 and it was 73. Today they did another blood draw at the 42 hour mark. The level needed to be below 1 and it was .57. Today consisted of lots of playing. He had physical therapy. Did a hot wheel car scavenger hunt with PT, did a scavenger hunt for me, did a scavenger hunt for his nurse in his room, and his nurse did a scavenger hunt all over the unit for him. Declan is a stickler and wouldn’t give any hints and was trying to trick us the whole time so we wouldn’t find the cars. We also spent some time down in the playroom playing some games. At the 48 hour mark they drew his labs and he needed to be below .4 to be released and he was at .16. However we didn’t get the results back until 8:45 pm and he needs one more dose of a rescue medication to protect his bladder and kidneys so we couldn’t be released tonight but will be released first thing tomorrow morning. We are hoping that the chemo doesn’t give him all the nasty side effects it did the first time. But the good news is he has felt really good this whole admission and is in really good spirits. We are hoping for a great weekend and lots of family time. Thank you for all the continued prayers and those checking in on Declan often!! We love all of you guys!!
