The Plan
I talked with the Mayo surgical oncologist this morning and we have a plan.
I will be having a subtotal gastrectomy. They will remove about 80% of my stomach and do a roux-en-y (yes, gastric bypass). According to the doctor (provided they don't find anything in the lymph nodes), this should cure my cancer. It will also cure my GERD, my Barrett's esophagus, my Type 2 diabetes, my obesity, and likely my high blood pressure and hyperlipidemia. Getting cancer may actually extend my life. 😊
The surgery is done with robotics and will only require 3 to 4 days in the hospital. We'll be doing the surgery in June/early July, giving me time to arrange my work schedule, and time for Ron and I to spend time in the Dells while the kids are at camp.
It feels really good to have a plan.
So thankful.
