Journal entry by Colene Troendle

After several weeks of being stable, Mom elected to revoke hospice last week.

I joined her for an appointment to check on the status of her wound at Gundersen.  It has been several weeks since I have seen the wound up close, and the size of the wound has reduced considerably.  As a point of reference, nurses were using seven rolls of gauze to dress her wound, now they are down to one. That said, it is still a sizeable wound and the focus will continue to be on keeping it clean so the healing may continue.  For this time, her catheter will remain, but there is a definite possibility that it may be gone with continued healing.

When we met with the care provider (whom we hadn't seen since the early stages of this), she said she was "very surprised to see your name on the schedule" and pleased to see Mom's progress considering how things were several weeks ago.

Going forward, Mom will be consulting with the physician at Benedictine about some new goals--physical therapy, continued wound healing, and hopefully increased strength and movement.

It feels good to have optimistic news to share.  Thank you for your continued support.
