Hello everyone! We wanted to give you an update on Mom’s recovery. Things have gone a little different than we planned. This past week things seemed to be at a stand still. Mom was not digesting the food from the feeding tube very well and continuing to throw up every day as a result of her stomach not being awake yet. As you can imagine, this depleted all her energy and took a toll on her. So on Friday Mom, Dad, and Cam headed back to Mayo for some follow ups.

After a few tests, her team decided to re-admit her. Her scans showed that her colon was enlarged, what they think is from the feeding tube. She also had some fluid around her liver that they believe was the start of an infection. They did a small procedure on Friday to drain and remove the fluid and now have her on antibiotics. They stopped her feeding tube Friday and started her on an IV drip with nutrients. They think the break from the feeding tube will help her colon.

Unfortunately she is still not able to eat. The team met today and are coming up with a game plan. They are going to scope her stomach to see what’s going on and hopefully get it back up and running! The goal is to have her eating some food and back on a feeding tube hopefully by the end of the week. They predict she will be at Mayo for another week or so.

Some small wins to note.. last week she went off her pain meds and is managing with just Tylonal and ibuprofen (yay!). When they admitted her on Friday, they told her her vitals were really good and her blood work came back good too (double yay!). Once they got her on the IV drip, she got some energy back and really started to sound like herself again. All things to celebrate!

As you can imagine, Mom has been frustrated and discouraged this past week. She just wants to feel better and like she’s making more progress. But like Mayo tells her, she IS making progress and recovery from this surgery does take some time. So we need to take it one day at a time and trust that she is in the best hands!

Please continue to pray for her and her Team. Once we can get her stomach turned back on, we will be heading in the right direction!

- Reghan
