Debbie’s Story

Site created on August 2, 2018

On July 26, 2018 I was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia.  It is a slow progressing type of leukemia so it's probably too early in my journey to start a caring bridge but I figured this would be the easiest way to keep everyone informed and updated on what is going on with me.   Today I went in for a bone marrow biopsy and should have the results in 2-3 days.  I have put everything in God's hands and I am truly at peace in my life.  The only thing that concerns me and makes me sad to think about is how this is going to affect the people that love me.  At some point I will start a Go Fund Me acct or some other kind of acct that the donations from will go towards any medical bills, meds and whatever else comes up monetarily that causes us to financially struggle more than we already do.  Thank you for visiting and friends and family, I love you all very much!!!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Debbie Swenson

I have been on my chemo medication (Gleevec) for 2 wks now and I am happy to say that I have very minimal side effects from it.  It amazes me how much it costs just to get the treatment that will keep me alive.  This medicine is almost $9000/mth.  It saddens me to have found out that insurance companies will only cover cancer treatments for ppl that are not diagnosed with cancers that will ultimately end in death even with treatment such as multiple myeloma.  My next appt with my oncologist is next week so I will update again after that appt.  Thank you to everyone for all of your support!!
