Newest Update

Journal entry by Patricia Poulin

Deb got dealt a hard blow over the past two weeks.  She has been diagnosed with advanced, metastasized ovarian cancer.  In typical Debbie fashion, she is buckled up and focused on fighting and BEATING this disease!

This diagnosis is new, and she does not have all the information yet.  Her diagnosing provider is Dr. Laurie Small of Maine Health.  Debbie has made the decision to provide people who want to know as much information as she has.  In that vein, the current treatment plan from Dr. Small is there will be additional testing in the next few days to specify the type of cancer and further clarification about the areas it has spread to.  She will begin chemotherapy on December 3rd.  It is expected she will have three rounds of chemotherapy (one day a week, every three weeks).  After the first chemo cycle they will do a new ultrasound in January of 2021, to determine if she needs a second cycle or if she can have surgery at that point. There is a list of appointments in the “notes” section of this website.

Debbie and I will travel to Dana Farber on November 27th where she will get a second opinion on her treatment course/options.  She has back to back appointment that day with an oncologist and a surgeon.  The treatment plan could change as results and consults come in.  However, Deb doesn’t want to waste a minute.

Deb’s in some pain but she is able to carry out her daily activities at this time.  She is still working, and her employer has been supportive in adjusting her schedule to suit her medical needs. She is laser focused on the task at hand.

The fight against this disease is going to be a marathon – good thing she is a marathon runner! Debbie knows she and her girls are going to need help in his fight.  So many people have already volunteered to help, and she appreciates those offers so much.  This website will serve as a coordinated place for her help requests and updated information for those who wish to support Debbie on this journey.

Debbie and the girls always refer to themselves as Team Kelley.  Rest assured, Team Kelley is strong and up to this fight!
