Debbee’s Story

Site created on August 2, 2020

On 1 July, our lives changed. Debbee & Ron were spending time with their grandchildren when Debbee began experiencing excruciating pain. Jenny & Daniel picked up the kids while Ron drove Debbee to the MUSC ER. During a scan to rule out pancreatitis, a mass was found on Debbee’s pancreas. Due to its location, the tumor is inoperable. On 2 July it was confirmed to be pancreatic cancer.

Journal entry by Jennifer Hursey

Hello everyone. This is going to be short and sweet, as things are rather busy for everyone this time of year.

Mom’s now in her final journey at her home. She is under the care of her hospice team, with Ron and I as her primary caregivers.

This past Saturday, Mom was the vibrant Debbee everyone knows and loves, though moving a bit slower. Things took a turn on Monday, and have progressed very, VERY rapidly. She is on her own timeline and we obviously have no idea when her time on Earth will end.

Please give us space and time as we spend our final moments with Mom. Please pray for a smooth transition for her. Thank you for all of the support the past 2 1/2 years.
