Dawsyn’s Story

Site created on June 20, 2021

On Friday, June 18th, we went to the hospital with plans of getting induced. Everything looked good when we got here and we were getting ready to start. All of a sudden things took a turn when baby’s heart rate dropped and then they were having trouble finding it. Thankfully, my nurse did an amazing job on reacting and got everyone in here and things ready because we were heading to the OR for an emergency c-section. Due to how fast they had to move, I had to be put under instead of getting an epidural. But thankfully Drake was able to be there with me the whole time before and reassure me that he wasn’t leaving. They had the NICU flight team en route before I was even put under, so they were here and able to get baby to Sioux Falls right away to get the help that was needed. At 9:42 AM our beautiful baby girl, Dawsyn Suzanne, was born. Even though things weren’t easy to watch, Drake was able to be with her as they worked on her. I was able to see Dawsyn for about 10 minutes before they had her ready to take by helicopter. Drake took off shortly after, so he could go be with her and let her know she’s not alone. My cousin, Amanda, who had worked the night shift on Thursday, came back to help in any way she could and was there with me and we couldn’t have asked for anymore.  I had to stay the night in Parkston and was able to get out today (Saturday) to run home, pack a bag, and give big brother Nash a big hug and remind him just how much we love him. Then it was off to Sioux Falls to go be with Drake and Dawsyn.

Even though things are very uncertain at the moment and our goal is to get through every hour, we do know God has a plan. If this would have been while we were at home, things would have been way different, so we are thankful that we were where we were at that moment and how fast the team at Parkston reacted.

For now we will continue to pray that our little baby girl, Dawsyn, continues to fight her fight. We don’t know what the next day will bring, but we will enjoy every moment we can with her. We love you, baby girl. Keep fighting! 💗

Newest Update

Journal entry by Jessica Johnston

Thank you for all of the prayers today. All of the viral tests came back negative and now we are just waiting to hear on the bacteria tests. Praying those are all negative as well.

She got her breathing tube, catheter, art line, and IV’s out today. They did place a new IV in her left arm just in case they need one because her other ones were bad. She has been showing off some smiles for the nurses today and even a couple little giggles. She really loves her new mobile that she got on her crib today and cried when it turned off earlier.

Daws has a list of things she needs to check off before we go home, but we are praying we can break out of here on Saturday to go be a family of 5 again. We know we need to be here with our girl, but we really miss our other two and can’t wait to see them soon.

Thanks again for all the prayers and well wishes. We are so blessed to have such a big army behind our little warrior. 🩷
