David’s Story

Site created on July 24, 2023

Welcome Everybody,

As a family, we wanted to have one spot for good wishes, memories/stories, and support for my father through this very difficult time.  To say this has come as a shock would be an understatement. We are all taking this one day at a time working to navigate and support each other and our dad no matter what he needs.

We recognize my father is loved by many both near and far. Our wish is to make sure he hears from anybody who would like to contact him.  Family/Friends have always been central to my father's world and he cares about so many people just as they care about him.

My father was diagnosed with malignant melanoma that has metastasized and spread. This terrible cancer has sucked the energy right out of him which has been very frustrating. Dad is always going and finding new projects to work on around the farm, all of his buildings, or truly wherever he is. He has always had a love of life and wants to be included/involved in everything.

My brothers and I will be updating the website as we work to get through each new day and the challenges/hope they bring.  Dad would love nothing more than to see everybody/anybody would like to see him, but presently, he is struggling with exhaustion and can’t handle too many personal visits.  Cards, emails, and any other messages are welcomed and help to break up the days while he is home.

Journal entry by Catie Johnson

Our entire family would like to thank you all for the love, cards, prayers, and well wishes you have sent to our family during what seems to be such an impossibly hard time. We are strong and will make it through this difficult time taking each day one moment at a time.

In addition to the obituary, an article was written by Mary Divine a reporter for the Pioneer Press, who knew Dad throughout the years due to his involvement on the Town board.

I also ask that you continue to send me your memories/stories about my dad. Each one of these emails/letters has helped in the healing process immensely. Each story is a reminder of the wonderful man we are fortunate to call Dad/husband.  The celebration of our dad's life will be on October 5th at the Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center – 2800 Curve Crest Blvd, Stillwater MN 55082 (651) 493-5511 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. with an informal service at 6:00 p.m.
