Journal entry by Melanie Skory

It has been one week since the shutdown of The Maples due to Covid-19 and I just spoke to dad this morning. He seems to be in good spirits and has been making slow progress.

We had a care conference via telephone earlier this week and dad has been able to sit up in a chair as well as drink thin liquids, which makes him very happy because he can have limited amounts of Mountain Dew now.

He still has some delay with getting his thoughts into words, but if you ask simple questions with 2 choices, he will always answer with the one that he feels is appropriate and correct.

Dad has not taken any steps yet but he is working on increasing strength in his core as well as his left leg. He is also starting to very slowly move his right fingers with therapy.

He is eating when he likes the food. Some of the nurses have been bringing him scratch off lottery tickets, which seems to make him smile as it is a familiar activity.

If everything stays the course right now he will be able to have visitors starting next weekend and I am very much looking forward to taking my family to see him Friday night. I will also be bringing him his laptop with hopes that that might help his brain remember more of his routine activities.

He has been getting the cards that people are sending and the nurses make sure to read them to him. He takes them in his hand and looks at them , so please keep those well wishes coming because they do help and keep him encouraged and positive!!

Thank you all for your prayers and support 🙏 ❤
