It is with immeasurable sadness  and grief that we let everyone know that David passed away very peacefully, without pain on the morning of March 5, almost 4 years after the memorable kidney transplant with Ellyn and his wonderful dog, Rocky, at his side.

During the past year, David suffered from the BK (not Burger King) virus, which attacks post kidney transplant patients. Since the beginning of July, he received infusions of an antiviral medicine every 2 weeks. In November of 2021, he was hospitalized with bacterial pneumonia for a week at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Due to COVID, he could not be admitted to a rehab facility, instead received PT and nursing visits twice weekly. He was doing well until mid January, when he developed a high fever and was re-admitted to the hospital. He was there for 2 weeks, diagnosed with sepsis. He was not allowed ANY visitors due to the increased outbreak of COVID at that time. After he was discharged, he was able to go to a rehab facility, where he was enthusiastic about recovering and coming home.

On February 24, he began to lose his strength and appetite. He was transported to Fairview Southdale Hospital on February 28. The staff there was very diligent, tried to find out why he was declining. By Thursday, March 3, it was clear that he did not have a long time left. I believe that he knew, even before the doctors told us, that he was going to die. His last words to me were " Why is this happening? I did everything right!" A totally accurate statement, he DID everything right, followed all of the necessary precautions and took all of his medications. His body just could not continue to function.

His family wants to thank all of you for many kindnesses over this journey. He so valued each of you!
