David’s Story

Site created on July 19, 2018

On June 5, 2018, David learned his melanoma—which had been successfully treated in 2001 without much impact on his every day life—had returned. This time, it has spread to numerous places throughout his body, classifying it as stage 4. What started as seemingly ordinary back pain on March 20 has quickly become a fight to live.

In the first six weeks after his diagnosis, David and Katie went to scores of doctor visits, had two multi-day stays in the hospital, and endured tons of scans, tests and medication adjustments. David's mom, PJ, has been in Marietta staying with them since June 7. Fighting this disease is a battle physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally, and the whole family needs your prayers and encouragement to help them through it.

They are fueled by each and every small win, but David is facing an uphill climb and his condition is very serious. Having endured several setbacks since beginning treatment, he is very sick but the whole family is hoping, praying and fighting to see better days soon. David and Katie's daughter Callie is just three years old, and the fight for David's life is motivated by a strong desire to see her grow up.

From Katie: "We continue to feel like we’re on a roller coaster, but it feels like a full car riding with us. If you ever feel the urge to text to check on us or send a note of encouragement, please do. It’s uncanny how we get little bits of encouragement from people at exactly the times we need it most, so we believe the Holy Spirit is orchestrating those things for us.  The knowledge that so many are joining us in prayer provides the strength and grace we need for each moment."

Casa Montessori School, where Callie currently attends, has established a way for donations toward her education to be tax-deductible. Many people at the school knew David well, as he was involved with Callie's education there and took her to school every day.

Katie is so grateful for the support of the special community at Casa, and she intends to keep Callie in school there for the foreseeable future. It is Callie's comfort zone, where she has been thriving for more than two years already.

Checks can be made payable to Casa Foundation, with "For Callie Rouse" in the memo line. They can be mailed to Casa Montessori (150 Powers Ferry Rd., Marietta, GA 30067) or brought in to the office.
