Journal entry by Nanell McAlpin

Thank you for so many prayers that have come from so many friends in different states as well as our own City. David has spent a week in Houston at a Cancer Center that had equipment and expertise with this rare cancer that KU did not have here. They were able to see enough of a space between the leg nerve and the tumor that they feel they can save the leg. It will not be easy. It's a 12 hour surgery with four weeks stay in the hospital and will have to be done in Houston. We are, however,  opting to do this. He will have a weakened leg and a shorter leg, because they still have to remove the pelvic bone, the hip , and the ball of the femur bone. He will use crutches for quite a while and have lots of therapy sessions, but he's strong and has a great attitude as well as great faith. And, of course, tremendous prayer support. It may be February before they do the surgery for all the doctors they need to be available.  We can't tell you how much your prayers have meant and you're messages of encouragement to us have meant. We are fortunate to have so many dear Christian brothers and sisters!
