David’s Story

Site created on October 18, 2022

Welcome to Dave’s CaringBridge site. This will be the place to get all the latest updates and to leave messages for Dave and Susan during this journey. Thanks for being here!

As you may already know, Dave went to urgent care on October 1st to have a pain in his side checked out. Imaging revealed a mass on his pancreas. A subsequent needle biopsy confirmed the cancer diagnosis and somehow also relieved Dave of his side pain.

Right now, the tumor is inoperable because it is wrapped around his mesenteric artery and portal vein. His care strategy is to use chemo to shrink the tumor, perhaps enough to follow up with surgery or to use radiation to further shrink it. Dave had a port surgically implanted in preparation for his chemo treatments, which begin on Monday, October 24th. He will have one 6-hour-long chemo treatment every 14 days for 2 months. A CT scan will follow to see if the tumor is shrinking. A second round of chemo is likely after that.

In the meantime, he has had a chest CT that showed no metastatic masses and his lymph nodes are clear! On Friday, October 21st, Dave will have a PET scan to look more closely at an 8mm spot on his liver. We will update this site when we know what the PET scan shows.

Dave, Susan, and the girls are ready to mount the fight of their life against this disease. In the meantime, please keep them in your thoughts while we all stay positive during this challenging time.   #DukesUpDave 🥊💜
