David’s Story

Site created on March 6, 2024

David A. Lord passed away suddenly and without pain on Sunday April 21.  Thank you for caring for him and our family.  We are all so very grateful for your support.

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

In late February David was hospitalized with uncontrolled GI bleeding. Over the course of his week-long hospitalization it was discovered that he had a large bleeding mass in his rectum that was partially obstructing his bowel. Thankfully the doctors were able to get the bleeding stopped and he is currently recovering at home awaiting the start of his treatment.

While doctors remain optimistic about David's ability to survive this diagnosis, the road ahead is going to be long and intense. David is expected to undergo 4-6 weeks of continuous chemo and daily radiation followed by 6 rounds of additional chemotherapy. At that point he will have follow up scans to determine if he responded well to treatment and then undergo surgery to remove the tumor and create a diverting ileostomy which will remain while he heals from surgery. After several months of healing Dad will have a surgery to reverse the ileostomy and will continue monitoring to determine if further treatment is necessary.
