Newest Update

Journal entry by Joel Johnson

I apologize for letting so much time go without posting. This experience has been quite consuming for all of us. This so say that none of us have had the bandwidth to post updates, but I am sorry if I have kept people wondering what is going on.

So, this is what's going on. David has spent over a week now in his new assisted living apartment in Gates. We have been slowly moving the essentials from a fairly large house to a small apartment, a process that has been a challenge for all of us.

David's life has not only change in location but socially as well. He went from a largely solitary life, which he had enjoyed the charms of for a while, to being a member of a community.

He has made some new friends and has done well in Euchre tournaments for the past two Sundays. He enjoys the communuty meals and says the food is quite good. He has also noted that his pain goes away when he is socializing and talking to others, or when he is focussed on a task.

He is still seeing doctors regarding his pain. Surgery at his age is considered too high a risk. It also has a physical therapist that is helping him to adapt to his new limitations.

Today was a significant day for a number of reasons. It was the first he got to see Joel and Matthew since his having gone to the hospital. I had arrived 10 days earlier, but I tested positive for COVID so was unable to visit him or take him items from home.

It was also an important day because he was reunited with his cat Juliet who will be living in his apartment with him, and Joel Matthew and Kelly gathered to celebrate his birthday, which is actually on Thursday.

For anyone who would like David's new address in Gates please contact us or make sure we have your email in a comment.
