Journal

Hi All! It has been awhile since we updated you! We have been home for 2 months from the hospital now. And we have been super busy trying to adjust back to life. I think we all wanted life to get back to normal quickly but realized how slow the healing process both physical and emotional has been.

David is doing pretty well. He has been doing therapy in town for two months and is getting stronger each day. He had his walker for a few weeks but worked hard to ditch it fast. He has slowly been putting weight back on and has even gone back to work at the end of July. He works 2 hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. He has therapy on Tuesdays and Thursdays. After just a few hours it becomes pretty difficult to be up moving around. But it has lifted his spirit to be doing a few more normal things.

David had normal tumor markers in July! YAY!!!! Every blood draw makes me so nervous. We have a big appointment coming up in a couple weeks at Mayo to make sure all his labs have returned to normal from his kidney, liver, and blood clotting issues. They will draw tumor markers again and do a CT scan. This scan will be his first since before surgery and will determine what will be done with anything left in his lungs. Because of what was found in biopsies from his abdomen, they decided to declare that there was no evidence of active disease. Remission. However, we are still aware there is a possibility that the lungs may need to be biopsied if there are any changes on the CT. So please pray that the masses that were on the CT in May have disappeared! I will update what the plan is after our appointment. We are praying to just do surveillance and that cancer will be something just in our past.

This summer has been an emotional ride as we have tried to deal with the emotional aftermath of almost loosing David in May. We have become a stronger family and we have had loved having more and more normal moments with each other.

We have some exciting things to look forward over the next couple of weeks:
  • I am taking Katelyn to college on Monday, she will be attending Liberty University in Virginia. I am flying her out and will be coming home on Saturday after getting her settled. We are so excited and proud of her. She will be majoring in Nursing and Womens Leadership and Ministries. This was a hard decision to make with everything that has been going on with David but we both encouraged her, she is just an airplane ride away if anything happens.
  • Andrew starts Kindergarten in a few weeks. We are so excited to find out who his teacher will be and for him to make new friends.
  • Allison and Hannah will continue to homeschool, Allison is going into 6th grade and Hannah into 4th.
  • Madelynn is planning on enjoying being 2, and she keeps David moving while I am at work :)
AND.....DAVID IS GOING TO START FOOTBALL ON MONDAY!!!  This has been his goal since this all started for us almost 8 months ago. He is so excited! I heard David say this summer that football is not just about a game but about family! This is so true for us. But I guess it is true about this community we call home. This community has become family. The support we have had is amazing. We appreciate every single person who has prayed for us, given us hugs and shoulders to cry on, brought a meal, or supported us financially. I can't imagine where we would be without you. I truly believe that God heard our prayers in May and healed David from all his complications. Thank you. We love you all.

We have a tackle cancer football game coming up and in honor of David they want to make it a BLUE OUT! August 30th at 7pm! His 9th Grade game will be right before at 4pm. They are also selling t-shirts to wear that night. I will attach a link if you are interested.
