Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Linda, Brad, Sarah Bomhoff , and close family are so incredibly grateful for the many calls, texts, and most importantly, prayers during this difficult time. The family has chosen the CaringBridge platform for updates and ongoing prayer requests. They are very busy with near constant updates from all David's medical specialists, along with wanting to spend every precious moment with David and family as they can.
To recap David's journey since 12/5/2022 (taken from Facebook):

12/6/2022
David came to the U of MN emergency room yesterday (12/5) after being found in his dorm room in delerium. He had been sick for 2 weeks with influenza and a sinus infection. The infection has turned into several abscesses from his brain to the chest wall. He had surgery last night to remove some infection from his throat and chest wall along with a tooth removal. He also had a trach placed to protect his airway. His blood is not clotting as it should, and the levels need to increase before more surgery is safe. He is very sick, and he needs prayer!!!

Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT Morning Blessing: May PEACE settle into your soul before your answer comes. May JOY rise up within you at a moment, you least expect it. May PROVISION come out of nowhere and remind you that God has your back and HE goes before you. May you defy the odds and come back from the trials you’ve endured. May you thrive right here, in the place God has you, until He moves you. And may your life be a living-breathing testimony of God’s grace and goodness, His kindness, and His love. You are a pilgrim, only passing through. Jesus is preparing a masterful, beautiful place for you. And He intends to get you safely home. You matter so very much to Him. Have a blessed day. #SusieLarsonBlessings

Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT ~ Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.
Thankful for this devotion a friend sent me today.

Perfect devotion for today!!! Thank you!! I will stand on this devotion today and reread throughout the day! I feel paralyzed at opening scripture at a loss of looking but easier to read what is sent, so thank you for prayers and scriptures that have been sent! Yesterday, I read several prayers that have been sent to David… much comfort!! David had a device placed in his brain to relieve/watch brain pressure…at high normal thus far. If my mind goes to the doctors words “he may not survive this” my heart sinks, fear increases, and emotions build up. I try to stay focused on “God has David and can restore & heal” Things we are facing today: surgery about 730am to check on spread of infection/ debridment, lungs have infection which has not been addressed beyond antibiotics, monitoring the infection in brain and trying to drain, concern for if heart has infection. He is stable but critical this am. Thanks for praying!

DAVID UPDATE TODAY: The doctor was just in. Pretty good report as looking at hand and arm no infection spreading, they clean up small areas. The doctor's focus is the brain now and controlling the infection. Hoping to soon be able to check the heart. They did put in a feeding tube. When we asked about his condition, since there was no more spread of tissue infection, what his opinion is. The doctor said David is still very, very sick still. But they think they have more control. They removed partial bones of ribs 1 & 2, part of sternum and clavical because of infection. We want to get that controlled. The doctors removed another tooth and more bone in David's jaw. I hope they will have more answers to what bacteria they are dealing with soon, but it takes 48 to 72 hours. They feel they are currently using correct antibiotics. Not considering moving to Burn Hospital anymore as there are many other issues they need to watch and control here. They have training in this and are working closely with them. They had a team of 16 surgeons with him today and took approximately 5 hours. David is on schedule for surgery each day for the next 4 days to watch everything and clean up what needs to be done. These doctors are wonderful and working together to bring David back to us. Prayers are working! He has a very long road ahead yet, but better news today. Thank you for your continued prayers!

Today has been a better day and more encouraging!! David has a good result of his heart ultrasound. There is no infection around his heart, and it's strong and healthy!!! Praise God!!
Specific prayer areas
🙏When the doctors were examining David, I was able to look into his mouth and see where they have taken 2 teeth out and cut away bone. Please pray that no more infection in this area and that bone stays healthy.
🙏Brain-they just took David down for another CT scan. They have a device in his head that is draining fluid. Please pray that his brain continues to have healthy pressures and that the infection in his brain would subside with the antibiotics and they would not have to do any more invasive treatment to this area.
🙏Lungs: Pray that the infection in the lungs is also diminished with antibiotics.

🙏They will be taking David back in for more surgery tomorrow morning to check on the infection and make sure it is not spreading and again clean out this area. Please pray that infection is halted and that no more bone or skin or muscle or facia needs to be removed.

🙏Sounds like they will try to decrease the sedation tomorrow to see what neurological function he has. Please pray for restoration and for brain and neurological function.

Our day has been better with greater hope, and we know that there is a huge amount of prayer warriors at battle with us. We know God is at work and ministering to David’s heart and body and also to ours as we walk this journey. Thank you all for your prayers and encouragement! We were blessed today with my nieces and nephews sitting with us thanks, Kelsey and Kayla for coming up today and thank you to Jeremy, Jake, and Erin for being up here yesterday and today - and to my sister Laura, who has been by our side since yesterday - company and support has been so appreciated!
